Before comparing products, we define the smallest setup that lets a beginner make a meaningful first attempt. We separate essentials from conveniences and upgrades.

We compare different kinds of evidence

• Specialist organisations and safety guidance
• Experienced practitioners and recurring community advice
• Manufacturer information for compatibility and specifications
• Current UK retailers for availability and price
• Courses or shared facilities when equipment cannot sensibly be used at home

Forum and group discussions are useful for spotting recurring problems, but a single comment is not treated as proof. Important safety or technical claims are checked against stronger sources.

Products are checked individually

A recommendation must link to the exact product reviewed, not a retailer search page. We record why it fits, what to watch for, when the link was checked and which merchant supplies it. Paid links are labelled near the link.

Guides are reviewed before publication

Each guide moves through draft, review, approval and publication. Changes create a revision so earlier versions remain traceable. The checked date shows when facts, links and representative prices were last assessed.
